Blount County Commission Approves Budget and Data Center Restrictions
The Blount County Board of Commissioners has approved the FY2026-27 budget and initiated restrictions on data center operations. The unanimous vote included a property tax rate of $1.29 and capital project prioritization, while a proposed stormwater management amendment failed to pass.

The Blount County Commission has finalized the FY2026-27 budget, setting the property tax rate at $1.29 and outlining capital projects. A request for the Planning Commission to impose data center operational restrictions was also adopted, including limits on location and sound emissions.
However, a stormwater quality management amendment was defeated by a vote of 9-10. The commission authorized transfers for America Rescue Plan Act projects and funded various school and infrastructure improvements, including a $250,000 repair for the Dark Island Swinging Bridge. These measures highlight ongoing efforts to manage growth and infrastructure maintenance in the county.
