Blue Origin Plans 5,408-Satellite TeraWave Network to Compete with Starlink
Blue Origin, founded by Jeff Bezos, plans to deploy a satellite network named TeraWave consisting of 5,408 satellites, targeting businesses, data centers, and government customers. Deployment is set to begin in Q4 2027, aiming for data speeds of up to 6 Tbps and serving up to 100,000 customers.
This initiative comes as part of a broader competition in satellite internet infrastructure, where SpaceX's Starlink currently leads with around 10,000 satellites. TeraWave's design focuses on enterprise users, differentiating it from consumer-focused networks like Starlink and Amazon's Leo. The satellite network development coincides with a growing trend of building space-based data centers to handle increasing demands for AI data processing.
