BMC to Present 2026-27 Budget Focused on Infrastructure Without Tax Hike
The BMC will present its 2026-27 budget on Feb 24, marking the first post-election budget in four years. No direct tax hike is anticipated. The budget will prioritize infrastructure projects worth Rs 2.32 lakh crore, including the Gargai Dam, a desalination plant, and sewage treatment upgrades. Municipal Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani will present the budget amid a focus on expediting major road projects and managing financial recoveries from pending dues.

The BMC is set to present its 2026-27 budget on February 24, the first after the recent civic elections and under the BJP's leadership. The budget will not include any direct tax increases. It will emphasize ongoing infrastructure projects valued at Rs 2.32 lakh crore, such as the Gargai Dam, a proposed desalination plant, and upgrades to sewage treatment plants.
The total budget for 2025-26 was Rs 74,427 crore. Financially, the BMC has reduced property tax but introduced levies on commercial units in slum areas, with pending dues reaching Rs 22,565.38 crore. The budget presentation will mark Municipal Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani's last, as he retires on March 31.
