Boao Zero-Carbon Zone Achieves 99.9% Emission Reduction by 2025
The Boao Zero-Carbon Demonstration Zone in Hainan province has achieved routine zero-carbon operation, with a 99.9% reduction in carbon emissions from buildings and infrastructure by the end of 2025. The zone generates 29 million kWh of green electricity annually, primarily from an agrivoltaic base. Launched in 2022, the initiative includes 18 renovation projects aimed at sustainable development, earning recognition from authoritative institutions.

The Boao Zero-Carbon Demonstration Zone in Qionghai, Hainan province has attained full-scale zero-carbon operation, achieving a 99.9% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions from approximately 11,350 metric tons in 2019 to about 14.6 tons by the end of 2025. The zone produces 29 million kWh of green electricity each year, with a surplus of 9.6 million kWh fed into the grid, amassing 4,965 tons of carbon credits.
