Boeing and Technion Launch Sustainable Aviation Fuel Development in Israel
Boeing's Global President Dr. Brendan Nelson visited the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa to announce the transition of their sustainable aviation fuel initiative to development. The Boeing-Technion SAF Innovation Center, launched in 2023, aims to produce 'electrofuel' using green hydrogen and captured carbon dioxide.
The project is part of Boeing's broader effort to support sustainable aviation fuel development. Technion leaders emphasized the project’s national importance for Israel, framing it as a connection between academic research and industrial capability.
The next phase will focus on practical development for commercial production. The initiative is supported by a NIS 100 million investment from the Israel Innovation Authority for a national SAF research consortium, despite ongoing conflict in the region.
