Bokaro Steel Plant Implements Hydrogen Injection Technology for Emission Reduction
Bokaro Steel Plant has initiated a pilot project to use hydrogen injection in blast furnace-1, aiming to reduce CO2 emissions. This aligns with India's commitment to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2070 under the National Green Hydrogen Mission.

Bokaro Steel Plant has signed an agreement with Forbes Marshall Private Limited to implement hydrogen gas injection technology in its blast furnace-1. This initiative aims to reduce carbon emissions from steel manufacturing by using hydrogen as a cleaner reducing agent, partially replacing carbon.
The project is the first of its kind under Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) and supports India's goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2070 as outlined in the 'Panchamrit' strategy during the COP26 summit. This move may enhance India's steel industry's global standing and contribute to sustainability efforts.
