Bonneville Power Administration Completes Ellensburg Substation Construction
The Bonneville Power Administration completed the Ellensburg substation on March 31, 1941, enhancing electricity distribution in Central Washington. This facility supports the City of Ellensburg and the Kitsap County PUD, improving access to power for rural communities.

On March 31, 1941, the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) completed the Ellensburg substation, marking a significant enhancement in electricity distribution in Central Washington. The substation, part of BPA's transmission system, serves the City of Ellensburg and the Kitsap County Public Utility District, facilitating electricity access in rural areas.
The substation's construction began in January 1941 on a 1.5-acre site and included a switchyard and control house. Following its activation in May 1941, Ellensburg ceased purchasing power from Puget Sound Power, resulting in a 25% reduction in electricity rates. BPA's implementation of a uniform pricing model and the establishment of a master grid have had lasting impacts on regional power availability and community development.
