Boralex Launches Sanjgon Battery Energy Storage Project in Ontario with Walpole Island First Nation
Boralex Inc. has launched the Sanjgon Battery Energy Storage project in partnership with Walpole Island First Nation in Lakeshore, Ontario, marking its first operational energy storage site in North America. With a capacity of 80 MW and 320 MWh, the project supports Boralex's 2030 Strategy and includes a Community Benefit Agreement to fund local initiatives. This development is part of Ontario's efforts to enhance grid reliability, increasing Boralex's total storage capacity in Canada to 380 MW, solidifying its position as the largest battery storage operator in the country.

Boralex Inc., in partnership with Walpole Island First Nation, has launched the Sanjgon Battery Energy Storage project in Lakeshore, Ontario. This facility, with a capacity of 80 MW and 320 MWh, is Boralex's first operational energy storage site in North America and contributes to its 2030 Strategy.
The project, previously known as the Tilbury Battery Storage Project, underscores Boralex's commitment to sustainable partnerships with Indigenous communities. A Community Benefit Agreement will provide $1,000 per MW annually to support local initiatives.
With Sanjgon operational and the Hagersville project soon to follow, Boralex's total storage capacity in Canada will reach 380 MW, positioning it as the largest battery storage operator in the country. The project utilizes 89 Tesla Megapack 2XL units and is part of Ontario's efforts to enhance grid reliability and meet growing electricity demand.
