Bordeaux Port Strengthens Maritime Innovations and Employment
On May 7, the Cluster Maritime Français held a significant event in Bordeaux, emphasizing the need for innovation in maritime activities. The industrial-port sector in Gironde supports 8,620 jobs across 232 companies, with a regional maritime workforce exceeding 65,000 and generating €12 billion in revenue.

The Grand Port Maritime de Bordeaux is addressing its reliance on refined product imports by exploring alternative fuels like SAF, which significantly reduce CO₂ emissions. Plans for a nickel and cobalt conversion plant for battery production are underway, capable of supplying batteries for 400,000 electric vehicles.
By 2030, Bordeaux will implement shore power for vessels, supported by a €22 million investment, allowing ships to dock without running engines. The port also houses an incubator for startups focused on future port innovations, enhancing competitiveness in a sector where collaboration and adaptation are crucial.
