Boryeong Begins Construction of 2.5MW Hydrogen Production Facility for Clean Hydrogen Transition
Boryeong City, South Chungcheong Province, is transitioning from a coal-centric industrial framework to a hydrogen hub with the construction of a 2.5MW water electrolysis hydrogen production facility. The project, involving collaboration with several organizations, aims to produce 395 tons of clean hydrogen annually and is part of a strategy addressing coal power reduction and promoting a 'Just Transition' to mitigate job losses and support the local economy.

Boryeong City is transitioning from a thermal power-centric structure to a hydrogen energy hub with a 2.5MW water electrolysis hydrogen production facility under construction. Initiated in January with partners including South Chungcheong Province and Korea Midland Power, the project will produce approximately 395 tons of clean hydrogen annually, sufficient for around 79,000 hydrogen vehicles.
This initiative is part of a 'Just Transition' strategy to counteract job losses from coal power reduction by reconfiguring existing infrastructure into eco-friendly energy systems. The city plans to link this facility with local hydrogen charging stations to establish a stable hydrogen supply, anticipating increased local demand and regional economic benefits.
