Boulevard Residents Oppose Starlight Solar Battery Storage Facility Proposal
The Starlight Solar project, encompassing 588 acres near Boulevard, could become one of California's largest battery energy storage sites. A community meeting on April 15 aims to mobilize opposition ahead of a County Planning Commission vote on May 8.

The proposed Starlight Solar project includes a 217.4 MW battery energy storage system and has generated significant community concern due to its proximity to sensitive areas and fire hazard zones. Residents are encouraged to attend a town hall meeting on April 15 to voice their opposition before the County Planning Commission votes on the proposal on May 8.
The project aims to meet California's renewable energy mandates, which require 100% of power from renewable resources by 2045. Opponents argue that the concentration of large-scale energy projects threatens the rural character of Boulevard and raises safety concerns, especially regarding potential fires from battery storage.
Community leaders seek a $7 million benefit fund and increased safety measures, although the Boulevard Planning Group's approval is advisory. The push for the project aligns with broader state goals but highlights conflicts between renewable energy development and local community interests.
