Box Divvy Launches Soft Plastics Recycling Initiative in Australia
Box Divvy has established a soft plastics recycling system, diverting approximately 2.5 tonnes monthly from landfills. The initiative addresses the recycling gaps exposed by the collapse of a supermarket collection scheme in 2022 and aims to enhance community-driven waste management.

Box Divvy is implementing a soft plastics recycling program across New South Wales, Victoria, and the ACT, aiming to process up to three tonnes monthly. The initiative was funded partially by the NSW Environment Protection Authority, which contributed to the cost of 500 soft plastic bins, and now 90% of the hubs in these areas are equipped with collection facilities.
Collected materials are processed weekly by ReSmart and sent to an EPA-approved facility for recycling into new food-grade bags, which Box Divvy intends to use for packaging dry goods. The success of this initiative highlights the potential for community networks to effectively manage their waste, demonstrating that local supply chains can take responsibility for their environmental impact.
