bp and Iberdrola Near Completion of Spain's Largest Green Hydrogen Plant in Castellón
bp and Iberdrola's joint venture, Castellón Green Hydrogen S.L., has reached the final construction phase of a 25 MW green hydrogen plant at bp's refinery in Castellón, Spain. The project is 90% complete and will produce approximately 2,800 tons of green hydrogen annually, reducing CO2 emissions by around 23,000 tons per year. Testing is set to begin in May 2026, with a total investment exceeding 70 million euros.

The joint venture of bp and Iberdrola, Castellón Green Hydrogen S.L., is nearing completion of its 25 MW green hydrogen plant at bp's refinery in Castellón, Spain, marking it as the largest facility of its kind in the country. The project has achieved 90% of the assembly phase and has 100% of its equipment on-site, including an electrolyzer supplied by Plug Power.
The plant is expected to begin testing in May 2026. The investment exceeds 70 million euros, with the electrolyzer powered by renewable energy through a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Iberdrola, producing 2,800 tons of green hydrogen and reducing annual CO2 emissions by 23,000 tons.
