BP and Iberdrola Secure €211M for Castellón Green Hydrogen Project
The Spanish Ministry for Ecological Transition approved €211 million in funding for the BP-Iberdrola green hydrogen initiative. This project aims to enhance green hydrogen production at BP's Castellón refinery, contributing to industrial decarbonization efforts.

Spain's IDAE confirmed the reallocation of up to €211 million in IPCEI Hy2USE funding to BP and Iberdrola's green hydrogen project in Castellón. A 25MW green hydrogen plant at BP’s refinery has completed construction and is undergoing commissioning tests, with production expected to commence late 2026, positioning it as Spain's largest facility of its kind.
Additionally, the project receives €15 million from the NextGenerationEU fund, facilitating further development of renewable energy solutions to replace natural gas in industrial applications. This initiative aligns with the EU's ACCELERATE EU emergency package aimed at decarbonization and energy supply independence.
