BP and Iberdrola to Launch 25MW Green Hydrogen Plant in Spain by May
BP and Iberdrola's joint venture, Castellón Green Hydrogen SL, plans to start producing green hydrogen at its 25MW facility in Spain by May. The project, which has achieved 90% assembly completion and includes a Plug Power PEM electrolyser system, is expected to generate up to 2,800 tonnes of green hydrogen annually. Funded by a €70M investment, including a €15M subsidy, the plant aims to displace grey hydrogen used at BP's Castellón refinery, reducing CO2 emissions by approximately 23,000 tonnes.

BP and Iberdrola's joint venture, Castellón Green Hydrogen SL, will initiate production at a 25MW green hydrogen plant in Spain by May. The project, located at BP's Castellón refinery, has reached 90% assembly completion with all equipment on site.
This includes a Plug Power PEM electrolyser system. The €70M project will produce up to 2,800 tonnes of green hydrogen annually, displacing grey hydrogen and reducing CO2 emissions by around 23,000 tonnes.
The plant will be powered by renewables under a power purchase agreement with Iberdrola, supported by a €15M subsidy. BP aims for 200MW of electrolysis capacity by 2027 and 2GW by 2030.
