Brainerd Requests $10 Million Federal Funding for Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrades

WATER INFRASTRUCTURE & DESALINATION

Brainerd is seeking $10 million from Congressman Pete Stauber's Community Project Funding for upgrades to its wastewater treatment facility, as agreed by the City Council on February 17. This funding will support phase one improvements, which include a mechanical dewatering process and other enhancements aimed at improving treatment efficiency and plant reliability.

The total cost for these upgrades is approximately $40 million, with completion expected in 2027-28. Brainerd and Baxter officials plan to submit this project as their sole request. The council also addressed various other matters, including permits for local events and infrastructure projects.
