Brazil Holds 15% of Global Rare Earth Reserves Despite Downgrade
Brazil's rare earth reserves are now estimated at 11.4 Mt, representing 15% of global reserves in 2025. The country remains in second place after China, which holds 44 Mt (52%).

As of 2025, Brazil's rare earth reserves are revised to 11.4 Mt, down from 21 Mt, maintaining a 15% share of global reserves, which have decreased from 85 Mt to 75 Mt. The U.S. Geological Survey reports that China leads with 44 Mt, followed by Brazil and Australia at 6.9 Mt.
Investment in Brazil's rare earth mineral research rose significantly from R$ 2 million in 2021 to R$ 90 million in 2024. The country is expected to produce 40-50 kt of rare earth oxides by 2030, increasing its global share to around 10%. The geopolitical landscape around rare earths is intensifying, necessitating swift and strategic action from Brazil to enhance its market position.
