Brazil is expanding its activities in Antarctica with the construction of the polar vessel Comandante Saldanha, expected to be delivered in 2025. The 93-meter vessel, designed for operation in thick ice, will have a reinforced hull and a diesel electric propulsion system for extended navigation.
It will serve as a scientific platform equipped with labs and sensors for research on climate change and marine biodiversity. Additionally, it will supply Brazil's permanent base in Antarctica, Comandante Ferraz, facilitating the transport of essential supplies and personnel. The project supports Brazil's defense industrial base and job creation.
