Breckenridge Plans $54 Million Rehabilitation for Gary Roberts Water Treatment Plant
Breckenridge is planning a $54 million rehabilitation of the 54-year-old Gary Roberts Water Treatment Plant, which has reached the end of its life. Town staff presented plans to the Town Council on January 27, highlighting the need for improvements following a 2014 evaluation that was delayed for dam repairs.
The project is proposed to be phased from 2027 to 2029, with no expected impacts on water service for residents. Funding discussions include leveraging the Colorado State Revolving Fund and exploring the Congressionally Directed Spending grant program.
Council members raised concerns about the current availability of grants, with many options reportedly diminished. The rehabilitation is expected to extend the plant's service life to 50 years. A new pre-treatment and filtration system will be added, necessitating an expansion of the existing facility. A Water Utility Stakeholder Group will be formed for community input.
