Brenham Proposes New Regulations for Car Washes and Data Centers
Brenham's Planning and Zoning Commission has recommended new regulations for car washes and data centers to address resource consumption. These changes are aimed at controlling water usage and environmental impact in response to community concerns.

The Brenham Planning and Zoning Commission has proposed new regulations for car washes and data centers to mitigate environmental impacts and safeguard water resources. New car wash facilities will be limited to 55 gallons of water per vehicle and must implement water reclamation systems.
Existing car washes renewing over 60% of their value will also need to comply. Future car washes will require a Specific Use Permit to assess applications individually. For data centers, the new ordinance prohibits water consumptive cooling systems and mandates screening requirements.
A currently under-construction data center will retain its existing permit but must adhere to new standards for future expansions. These recommendations are set for City Council review, potentially marking a significant shift in local zoning practices.
