Brighter Futures Initiative Launches Solar System at Soweto School
The Brighter Futures initiative has installed a solar power system at Sekwati Primary School in Soweto, enhancing energy independence for educational facilities. This partnership involves GoSolr, Investec, and the Rising Tide Foundation, aiming to alleviate funding issues and ensure consistent learning environments in South Africa's public schools.

On 20 March, the Brighter Futures initiative deployed a solar power system at Sekwati Primary School, featuring a 30kW inverter, 80 solar panels, and 40kWh battery storage. This project is expected to reduce electricity bills by 30% to 50%, translating to approximately R6,000 monthly savings, which can be redirected to educational resources.
The initiative targets the 22,000 public schools in South Africa, addressing funding constraints and unreliable power supply. Long-term sustainability is ensured through free servicing and maintenance. The project serves as a model for expanding solar energy solutions across the country, supporting uninterrupted education amid power outages.
