German company Brinell Compute GmbH is in advanced discussions to invest approximately €3 billion in an AI computing facility near Plovdiv, Bulgaria. The Bulgarian government approved a memorandum of understanding on January 21, 2026, formalizing the cooperation. A decision on the location is expected by Q2 2026, with construction to begin shortly after if approved. Brinell Compute, registered in Munich in September 2025, specializes in AI infrastructure and has previously funded over €2.5 billion in energy projects in Europe.
