Burbank Water and Power has inaugurated a $17 million solar and battery storage system, now operational and contributing 2 megawatts of power. The facility, covering 174,000 square feet at the Regional Intermodal Transportation Center, features 4,260 solar panels, capable of powering approximately 585 homes.
The battery system is designed to store excess energy for use during peak demand, enhancing energy cost efficiency and grid reliability. Construction concluded in April 2024 after a bidding process that started in August 2023, with Baker Electric as the contractor. The project was developed in collaboration with the Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority, furthering the city’s clean energy ambitions.
