Burundi to Increase Government Spending by 24% in Next Fiscal Year
Burundi's government plans a 24% increase in spending for the next fiscal year, reaching 6.7 trillion francs ($2.26 billion). This growth is expected to be supported by enhanced revenue from the mining sector and a broader export base, crucial for the country's economic strategy.

Burundi's government spending will rise to 6.7 trillion Burundi francs ($2.26 billion) for the fiscal year starting in July, marking a 24% increase from the current year's 5.4 trillion francs. The country's finance minister noted that economic growth is projected to reach 5.5%, up from 4.7%.
This growth is anticipated to stem from increased irrigated agricultural production and a gradual rise in mineral output, which includes gold, tin, tantalum, and tungsten. Additionally, the government will eliminate import taxes on electric and hybrid vehicles due to worsening fuel shortages stemming from the Iran war. Such fiscal measures may enhance economic stability but also pose risks if global commodity prices fluctuate.
