BWE Warns German Energy Ministry's Grid Reform Could Halt Wind Project Investments

WIND ENERGY

The German wind power federation BWE has warned that a proposed grid reform by the energy ministry would violate EU regulations and jeopardize investments in new wind projects. The plan involves waiving compensation for curtailment in regions where wind or solar output exceeded 3%, rendering financing impossible.

BWE commissioned a legal opinion stating that the proposal contravenes EU's Internal Electricity Regulation, which mandates compensation for redispatch measures. The federation presented an 'acceleration agenda' proposing various optimization measures for grid expansion and digitalization. The draft grid package is pending internal coordination among the government, with uncertainty regarding approval from coalition partners.
