Cabinet Approves $10M IDB Loan for Caye Caulker Wastewater Project
The Belize Cabinet has endorsed a US$10 million loan from the Inter-American Development Bank for a wastewater collection and treatment system in Caye Caulker Village. The project aims to address sanitation issues and improve public health. Implementation will start with procurement in six months, followed by three years of construction. Initially, the project will cover south Caye Caulker, with plans for north Caye Caulker considered later.

The Belize Cabinet has approved a US$10 million loan from the Inter-American Development Bank for a wastewater project in Caye Caulker Village, pending House of Representatives approval. The project aims to replace existing septic systems with a centralized wastewater treatment system using a vacuum pipe network.
The total project cost is estimated at US$13 million, which includes the loan, contributions from Belize Water Services Limited, and a grant. Implementation will begin with a six-month procurement process, followed by three years of construction, initially focused on south Caye Caulker. Public consultations indicate community support for the initiative.
