Cabinet Approves Over Rs 40,000 Cr for Arunachal Hydropower Projects
The Indian Cabinet has sanctioned investments exceeding Rs 40,000 crore for two hydropower projects in Arunachal Pradesh. This initiative aims to enhance energy security and infrastructure in the Northeast region.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved Rs 26,069.50 crore for the 1720 MW Kamala Hydro Electric Project, projected to produce 6,870 million units of electricity annually over a 96-month construction period. A joint venture between NHPC Limited and the Arunachal Pradesh government will implement this project.
Additionally, Rs 14,105.83 crore was allocated for the 1200 MW Kalai-II Hydro Electric Project, expected to generate 4,852.95 million units of power in 78 months. This project will be executed by THDC India Limited and the state government.
Both projects will deliver 12% free power to Arunachal Pradesh and support local infrastructure development, including roads and social facilities. The investments are expected to bolster the region's energy supply and stimulate local economies.
