CaetanoBus Launches Hydrogen-Powered BRT System in Porto
Porto introduces its first hydrogen-powered Bus Rapid Transit system with twelve H2.CityGold buses from CaetanoBus. The project aims to create an integrated hydrogen mobility ecosystem, including green hydrogen production and refueling infrastructure. CaetanoBus leads the consortium, coordinating stakeholders to reduce implementation complexity and mitigate ownership costs. The company plans to introduce a pay-per-use model for hydrogen mobility to enhance adoption of zero-emission transport solutions.

Porto has launched its first hydrogen-powered Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, supplied by CaetanoBus, which provided twelve 18-metre H2.CityGold articulated buses. As the consortium leader, CaetanoBus oversees the entire hydrogen mobility ecosystem, including a local green hydrogen production unit and hydrogen refueling infrastructure.
The project, developed with Metro do Porto and other partners, aims to simplify implementation and reduce total cost of ownership risks. CaetanoBus plans to introduce a pay-per-use model, allowing operators to access fleet capacity and services based on operational needs, shifting costs from capital expenditure to operating expenditure.
