Calpine Completes 105MW Pastoria Solar Project to Support California's SWP Decarbonisation
The Pastoria Solar Project, with a capacity of 105MW, has been completed to aid the State Water Project's decarbonisation by 2035. This facility represents a significant step in California's transition to a carbon-neutral utility, supporting water supply for 27 million residents.

Calpine has finalized the 105MW Pastoria Solar Project, which is part of the California Department of Water Resources' strategy to achieve full decarbonisation of the State Water Project by 2035. The facility, located near the Edmonston Pumping Plant, includes an 80MW/320MWh battery storage system and a 750MW natural gas-fired plant, ensuring reliable energy delivery.
The battery system is expected to be operational by spring/summer 2026, under a long-term agreement with Pacific Gas and Electric Company. The project aims to fulfill California's 2045 clean energy objectives while providing essential water services to millions and creating union jobs, as highlighted by state labor leaders. Its impact extends to supporting California's economy and environmental goals.
