Cambodia Secures $40 Million for REDD+ Initiatives, Recognized by World Bank
Cambodia is set to receive $40 million in funding to bolster its REDD+ program as it is recognized as a global leader in implementation. The country currently has at least ten REDD+ projects underway, contributing to its carbon neutrality goals for 2050.
Cambodia will receive $40 million from the Green Climate Fund to enhance its national REDD+ program. The World Bank has recognized the country as a global leader in REDD+ implementation, with at least ten active or developing projects like those in Keo Seima and the Southern Cardamom Mountains.
These projects have attracted international corporations to purchase carbon credits, generating revenue for forest conservation and local community improvements. Furthermore, the generated carbon credits aid Cambodia's Nationally Determined Contributions towards carbon neutrality by 2050. The ministry aims to strengthen the capacity of local officials and communities in managing these initiatives, and is working to become an Accredited Entity for direct GCF funding access.
