Cambodia Targets 70% Renewable Energy by 2030 with $5 Billion Investment
Cambodia aims for 70% renewable energy generation by 2030, supported by $5 billion in new projects. This commitment positions the country as a leader in clean energy within the ASEAN region, enhancing both regional connectivity and investment appeal.

Cambodia's Minister of Mines and Energy, Keo Rottanak, announced a goal to achieve 70% renewable energy generation by 2030, supported by 23 new projects valued at nearly $5 billion. Currently, the nation's renewable capacity is at 64%, with a significant focus on solar energy, which has seen costs drop by over 99% since the 1970s.
A critical challenge remains in grid transmission, which can take up to a decade to develop. To enhance efficiency, Cambodia has initiated upgrades to its solar transmission infrastructure and launched its first grid-scale energy storage facility.
Efforts are also underway to improve financing conditions for clean energy investments, targeting job creation and inclusive economic growth. Cambodia's actions could significantly influence regional energy dynamics.
