Cameroon is in the final stages of negotiations with GDS Orion Solar to develop a 30 MW solar power plant in Ngaoundéré, featuring a 20 MWh battery storage system. Minister Gaston Eloundou Essomba confirmed that technical studies are complete and a draft power purchase agreement is ready, following approval from the Ministry of Finance. This project, initiated by a French consortium in 2018, aims to improve electricity supply in northern Cameroon and represents a significant advancement in the region's renewable energy capacity.

Cameroon is finalizing negotiations with GDS Orion Solar to build a utility-scale 30 MW solar power plant in Ngaoundéré, with a 20 MWh battery storage system. Minister of Water and Energy Gaston Eloundou Essomba confirmed that technical studies are complete and a draft power purchase agreement is prepared, following a favorable opinion from the Ministry of Finance.
The project, which began in 2018, was initiated by the French consortium Générale du Solaire and Arborescence Capital. Originally planned for 20 MW, the project scope has expanded. The facility aims to enhance electricity supply in northern Cameroon, which has high solar irradiation levels.
Completion is contingent upon final contractual negotiations. If realized, it would be among the region’s most advanced renewable energy installations.
