The campaign demands the expansion of protected areas over 13,000 hectares, ensuring the conservation of breeding colonies and the water system essential for the flamingos' survival.

The Finca del Chañar Community, National Council of the Colla People, and Codema are leading a signature campaign to urge the Chilean government to ratify agreements for the establishment of a National Park in Maricunga Salt Flat. This area is home to a significant breeding colony of endangered Andean flamingos, which depend on the fragile ecosystem.
Current protections are inadequate, leaving critical nesting areas unprotected. The campaign seeks to expand the National Park to over 13,000 hectares, ensuring strict protections for the flamingos and their habitat. Concerns are raised about lithium extraction activities damaging the ecosystem, prompting calls for immediate action from the Council of Ministers.
