Canada and Brazil Sign Agreement to Use AI for Nickel Exploration
Canada and Brazil have signed a technical cooperation agreement to enhance research on nickel deposits. The Geological Survey of Brazil and the Geological Survey of Canada will collaborate on understanding geological processes and apply AI for mineral potential modeling. Initial findings are expected in 2027. Brazil holds 16 million tonnes of nickel reserves, ranking third globally, yet faces challenges in production and project financing amid geopolitical tensions over mineral supply chains.

Canada and Brazil have entered a technical cooperation agreement to research nickel deposits. The Geological Survey of Brazil and the Geological Survey of Canada formalized this partnership during the PDAC 2026 convention in Toronto.
The collaboration will focus on geological studies and leveraging AI for mineral potential modeling, with results anticipated in 2027. Brazil has 16 million tonnes of nickel reserves but ranks eighth in global production. The agreement comes amid heightened international interest and geopolitical tensions regarding mineral supply chains, particularly involving China.
