Canada and UAE to Begin Free Trade Negotiations Next Month
Canada and the United Arab Emirates will start negotiations for a comprehensive economic partnership agreement next month, aimed at enhancing trade ties and attracting UAE investment in sectors like liquefied natural gas and green energy. This initiative is part of Canada's strategy to reduce reliance on U.S. exports, driven by tariffs.
Abu Dhabi's state energy group ADNOC is considering investment in Canadian LNG projects, with seven projects currently in development. Additionally, Canada plans to expand port capacity to facilitate exports to markets in the Indo-Pacific and Europe. Minister Sidhu will also visit China with Prime Minister Mark Carney to rebuild trade relations and explore collaboration in energy, education, and battery storage, while free trade negotiations with India will also commence next month.
