Canada Announces 6th Green Bond Issuance and New Carbon Storage Project Regulations

CARBON CAPTURESTRATEGIC MINERALS

Canada will issue a new 10-year green bond as part of its green bond program, which has raised $15.5 billion since its launch in March 2022. The bond issuance follows a $1 billion 30-year bond released in October 2025 and aims to meet investor demand for green investment opportunities.

Additionally, Ontario will accept applications for commercial-scale geologic carbon storage projects starting February 2, 2026, as part of its plan to enhance economic competitiveness and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in energy-intensive industries. The government has developed a regulatory framework for these projects to ensure safe management. Furthermore, the Canadian government has increased the monetary thresholds for foreign investment reviews under the Investment Canada Act for 2026, particularly concerning sensitive sectors such as critical minerals and advanced technologies.
