Canada Reviews Webequie Supply Road to Enhance Ring of Fire Access
The Impact Assessment Agency of Canada is reviewing the Webequie Supply Road project, a 107-km highway crucial for accessing the Ring of Fire mineral region. This infrastructure could significantly reduce mining costs and enhance economic activity, yet it raises environmental concerns among Indigenous communities.

The Impact Assessment Agency of Canada has initiated a federal review of the Webequie Supply Road, a 107-km all-season highway linking Webequie Airport to the McFaulds Lake area. This project aims to address the transportation barriers hindering mining development in the Ring of Fire, home to significant deposits of chromite, nickel, copper, and platinum group metals, which could generate billions in economic activity.
The federal assessment will evaluate potential environmental impacts and propose mitigation strategies, while soliciting public feedback on binding conditions for the project. Indigenous communities express mixed views, supporting economic benefits but raising concerns about environmental protection and impacts on traditional lands.
