Canada's DND Allocates $51.7 Billion for 2026-27, Including Space Rocketry Challenge
Canada's Department of National Defence (DND) plans to invest $51.7 billion in 2026-27, including $25 million for a new Space Rocketry Challenge. The budget supports eight core responsibilities, with major allocations for Ready Forces and Procurement of Capabilities. DND integrates the Canadian Coast Guard into its defense portfolio and initiates a strategic Force Structure Review for the Royal Canadian Air Force to create a modern Air and Space Force. The plan also includes advancements in continental defense and cyber capabilities.

DND integrated the Canadian Coast Guard to enhance maritime security. A strategic review of the Royal Canadian Air Force aims to establish a modern Air and Space Force. The Northern Wide-Area Tracking program replaces the Polar Over-the-Horizon Radar, utilizing ground and space-based sensors. DND will also expand cybersecurity cooperation and deepen integration with NATO through the new DIANA office in Halifax.
