Canadian Space Agency Revamps Procurement Strategy for WildFireSat and Robotics
The Canadian Space Agency (CSA) is shifting its procurement strategy to emphasize speed and flexibility, particularly for the WildFireSat mission. This approach aims to foster innovation in wildfire monitoring and robotics, addressing industry concerns while advancing domestic capabilities.

The Canadian Space Agency (CSA) is implementing a new procurement strategy that prioritizes speed and iterative development, as emphasized by President Lisa Campbell. The reset of the WildFireSat mission follows the termination of a previous contract, with a new Request for Information (RFI) issued to gather input on the mission's development.
The CSA aims to attract a broader range of bidders and will hold a virtual session to outline the RFI process. Campbell also addressed the increasing demand for Canadian robotics amid NASA's 'Ignition Program' and highlighted the urgent need for domestic launch capabilities, commending several companies for their progress. The CSA is working to bridge funding gaps for early-stage companies while advocating for a flexible approach to partnerships to support innovation and minimize space debris.
