Capital Region Sees Major Investments in Hydrogen and Carbon Capture Projects
The Capital Region is experiencing significant industrial investment, particularly in hydrogen and carbon capture projects. ExxonMobil's Baton Rouge Refinery employs about 2,500 workers and has partnered with AtmosClear BR for carbon storage services.
Dow Louisiana Operations in Plaquemine, with nearly 1,300 employees and 1,500 contractors, is focusing on carbon capture through a partnership with Denbury. Air Products is investing $4.5 billion in a blue hydrogen complex, while Clean Hydrogen Works proposed a $7.5 billion hydrogen-ammonia project.
Monarch Energy is also planning a $426 million carbon-free hydrogen facility. Major carbon capture initiatives include an $800 million AtmosClear plant and a $4 billion low-carbon ammonia facility by CF Industries.
Additionally, the Grön Fuels project aims to create a $9.2 billion renewable fuels facility. These developments position Louisiana as a leader in the energy sector amid rising global energy demands.
