Carlyle Group's Revera Energy Shifts Focus from Solar Farm to Battery Project in Australia
Revera Energy has abandoned plans for a 500 MW solar farm in South Australia, opting instead to develop a 500 MW, 2,000 MWh battery project. This decision reflects the current economic challenges of solar energy production in a state already achieving high renewable penetration.

Revera Energy will replace its planned 500 MW solar farm near Robertstown with a standalone battery project of the same capacity. The company determined that developing a solar farm is not economically viable in South Australia, citing the state's existing 75% renewable energy share and high rooftop solar penetration, which leads to negative pricing for solar output.
The battery project, planned in two stages of 250 MW and 1,000 MWh, will connect to the Robertstown substation via an underground link. While other renewable projects continue to emerge in South Australia, including significant wind initiatives, the shift from solar to battery by Revera indicates a strategic pivot in response to market conditions and technological advancements in energy storage.
