Carthage Secures Federal Funding for Wastewater System Upgrades
Carthage, Indiana, is set to receive over $1 million in federal funding to upgrade its wastewater treatment system, addressing stormwater backflow issues. This funding is crucial as it alleviates financial burdens on local utility users from treating excess stormwater during heavy rains.

Carthage, Indiana, has been allocated over $1 million in federal Community Project Funding to enhance its wastewater treatment and collection system. The project aims to mitigate stormwater backflow issues that have led to increased treatment volumes during heavy rains, impacting local utility costs.
U.S. Rep. Jefferson Shreve, who is part of the Appropriations Committee, facilitated this funding, which has successfully passed the initial committee stage and now awaits a vote in the House of Representatives.
The upgrades will target the infiltration and inflow problems, ultimately reducing costs for ratepayers. If successful, this initiative could serve as a model for similar challenges in other municipalities.
