Carver Council Approves One-Year Moratorium on Data Centers
Carver City Council has instituted a one-year moratorium on data center developments to assess their environmental impact. This decision reflects growing concerns in Minnesota regarding the rapid expansion of data centers and their energy consumption.

The Carver City Council recently enacted a one-year moratorium on all data center development, aiming to evaluate their effects on the environment. This action is part of a broader trend in Minnesota, with Eagan having implemented a similar pause in February due to high energy usage near residential areas.
Additionally, Apple Valley rejected a significant data center project last month, while Meta is preparing to launch a facility in Rosemount. A major Google data center proposal in Hermantown is expected to consume 700MW of energy.
The state legislature is also considering a bill to prohibit nondisclosure agreements related to such projects. These developments indicate increasing scrutiny of data center projects and their implications for local communities.
