Castilla-La Mancha Government Advocates for Desalination Post Supreme Court Ruling
The Castilla-La Mancha government urges Valencian and Murcian regions to adopt desalination following a Supreme Court ruling favoring local water management. This shift in strategy underscores a push for sustainable water resources amid changing hydrological planning.

The Government of Castilla-La Mancha asserts that the Valencian Community and Murcia must adopt desalination as an alternative to the Tajo-Segura water transfer, following a supportive Supreme Court ruling. Vice President José Manuel Caballero emphasized the need for a new model prioritizing regional water needs, stating that the Levante must adapt to using alternative resources like seawater.
He indicated that the ruling reflects ongoing attempts by both communities to resist changes in water management. Spokesperson Esther Padilla noted that modifications to transfer exploitation rules should progress, reinforcing the government's stance on ecological flow respect as mandated by EU regulations. This situation could provoke tensions as regional water resource management evolves.
