CCTV Installation Proposed to Combat Litter Issues in Clane-Maynooth Municipal District
The Clane-Maynooth Municipal District has proposed the installation of CCTV to tackle litter blackspots. This suggestion arose during a meeting on February 6, prompted by Fine Gael Cllr William Durkan's inquiry to Kildare County Council (KCC). KCC outlined that CCTV could help deter littering and provide evidence for prosecutions under existing regulations. The initiative would follow statutory processes and be evaluated on a site-specific basis.

Kildare County Council (KCC) has suggested the installation of CCTV in the Clane-Maynooth Municipal District to address litter blackspots. This recommendation emerged during a meeting on February 6, initiated by Cllr William Durkan's inquiry regarding the benefits of CCTV in combating litter issues.
KCC indicated that the use of CCTV is governed by the Circular Economy and Miscellaneous Provisions Act 2022, allowing for GDPR-compliant surveillance. The council noted that CCTV could deter illegal dumping, support prosecutions, and improve public cleanliness. Future deployments would depend on statutory processes and site-specific evaluations.
