CDB Secures GCF Approval for $65.2 Million Climate Resilience Project in Bahamas Water Sector
The Bahamas will receive $65.2 million to enhance climate resilience in its water sector, following GCF approval. This initiative aims to modernize infrastructure and protect freshwater resources, directly benefiting over 215,000 residents.

The Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) has announced a $65.2 million investment for climate resilience in The Bahamas' water sector, following Green Climate Fund (GCF) approval. The funding consists of a GCF grant of $37.506 million, a GCF concessional loan of $12.546 million, a CDB loan of $12.546 million, and an in-kind contribution of $2.602 million from The Bahamas' Water and Sewerage Corporation (WSC).
Key project interventions include the development of climate-resilient wellfields, floodproof pumping stations, and enhanced water monitoring across six islands. The initiative aims to bolster water security for over 215,000 people and improve resilience for an additional 199,000, addressing vulnerabilities posed by climate change. This aligns with CDB's Strategic Plan 2026-2035, focusing on climate action and resilient infrastructure.
