CEB to Restore Two Generators at Norochcholai Coal Power Plant by Early January
The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) reported that two generating units at the Norochcholai Lakvijaya Coal Power Plant are currently offline for repairs, resulting in a loss of 600 megawatts of capacity. One unit has been under scheduled maintenance since November 3, while the other was shut down on December 20 due to a technical fault. CEB aims to restore both units by early January, ensuring that daily power supply remains unaffected due to stable hydropower generation.

The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) announced that two generating units at the Norochcholai Lakvijaya Coal Power Plant are offline for repairs, resulting in a loss of 600 megawatts of electricity generation capacity. One unit was taken offline for scheduled maintenance on November 3, and the other was shut down on December 20 due to a technical fault.
Currently, only one unit is operational, contributing 300 megawatts to the national grid. CEB plans to bring both units back online in the first week of January. Despite the reduced capacity, the CEB confirmed there is no disruption to the daily power supply, as hydropower generation remains unaffected.
