Cebu Plans P7B Dam Projects for Flood Control and Water Supply
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Cebu is initiating a P7 billion project to construct dams and reservoirs, addressing flooding and water supply issues. The project, spanning up to 10 years, aims to enhance water storage and hydropower generation in the region.

Cebu's DPWH plans to invest P7 billion in building dams and reservoirs along seven major rivers to combat frequent flooding and ensure water supply. The initiative is designed to control floods, generate hydropower, provide irrigation, and supply clean drinking water.
Each river project is estimated to require P1 billion, with construction potentially starting in 2027 pending government approval. Governor Pamela Baricuatro supports this initiative, citing ongoing water shortages exacerbated by El Niño.
Immediate funding of P720 million from the national government will aid in short-term solutions to climate-related challenges. These reservoirs are critical for Cebu's long-term water security and disaster resilience.
