Cellula Robotics' Envoy AUV Achieves Over 2,000 km in Hydrogen-Powered Mission
Cellula Robotics Ltd's Envoy AUV has completed a fully submerged mission lasting 385 hours, covering 2,023 km, powered by hydrogen fuel cells. This achievement underscores the potential for enhanced operational efficiency and reduced recovery needs in subsea missions, demonstrating significant advancements in autonomous underwater vehicle technology.

The Envoy Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) from Cellula Robotics Ltd successfully completed a mission where it traveled 2,023 km while submerged for 385 hours, surpassing its performance specifications. This mission featured over 4,000 turns and manoeuvres, indicating a realistic operating profile as opposed to a simple linear transit.
The hydrogen fuel cell technology, developed with Infinity Fuel Cell and Hydrogen, Inc., supports this long-endurance capability. The outcome suggests improved efficiency for offshore operations, with potential reductions in recovery and relaunches, which could lower operational costs. Additionally, the hydrogen fuel cell system produced water as a by-product, highlighting the environmental benefits of such technology in subsea applications.
