Chalice to Develop Gonneville Palladium/Nickel Project as Australia's First PGM Mine
The Gonneville project in Australia is set to become the first primary platinum group metals mine and the second-largest nickel mine in the country. It will produce an average of 220,000 oz/y of palladium, platinum, and gold, along with 7 million tonnes of nickel, 8 million tonnes of copper, and 700,000 tonnes of cobalt annually.
The development will occur in two stages: Stage 1 focuses on higher-grade open-pit mining, processing 1 million tonnes of oxide and 4 million tonnes of sulphide per year, while Stage 2 anticipates a long-life, bulk mining phase processing 12 million tonnes per year. The project is expected to create 1,200 jobs during peak construction and 500 jobs annually during operation. It has a pretax net present value of A$1.4 billion and a capital expenditure of A$820 million, with first production expected in early 2030 following a final investment decision.
